Vermont’s 23 Things
Week 1 Thing 1
Enjoyed the reminders about lifelong learning. Especially the idea of putting the learner first. So easy to forget when teaching someone a new skill or encouraging and empowering people to help themselves.
Habit One Begin with the end in mind, determine your goal & develop a plan would likely be the hardest. Determining the goal is fairly easy but taking the time to write down concrete goals? Being a creative learner, the path to goals has had varied twists and turns often changing the terms of the goal on the way.
Habit Three is both hard and easy at once! View problems as challenges and obstacles as learning opportunities. One of the best teachers I ever had the great opportunity to observe clearly used this in her classroom as a motto: “Mistakes are opportunities for learning.” Encouraging our students, patrons, and children to take a risk on learning and possibly make a mistake, and then try again & again to find a solution is an excellent habit for learners and teachers.
